Joy. It’s one of the hardest attitudes/emotions but typically for me it is found with family gatherings at the holidays, the laughs of our kids, sharing another’s burdens with compassion, and the enduring peace of God- all of which tell me there is deep good in this world.
Hang out time with Aiden and Ryan, seeing them play and laugh with Liz, and introducing Aiden to In N Out, and watching Ryan eat a whole In N Out Burger!
Ben Snyder’s call today. 3 min phone call but it was great to hear his voice.
Ryan trying bites of each of his barbecue chicken and mixed veggies. Such a relief to have Ryan opening up to trying new foods.
A safe and good drive to family in DFW area, in which Ryan also went all the way with no tech.
The willingness of Bridget Hughes and Jennifer Christian to lead or participate in the worship team at Bering. We are gifted with their voices.
Serving a family I love dearly as they loved their little boy in his likely last day. What a beautiful family! What beautiful parents! I’m heartbroken but grateful to have been with them today.
Attending Christmas Eve mass with Liz and her parents, joining my new family’s Christmas tradition and adding a new one to my traditions.
A good FaceTime with Ryan tonight. I can’t wait to have him back tomorrow.
The stunning beauty and moving silence of a baby held by his faithful mother, a baby that carries promise and hope through a God who loves to enter the world. The picture of a young Mary holding Jesus and feeding and nourishing him and wrapping him in her blanket is just stunning and special. Come Lord Jesus indeed.
Singing Christmas carols.
The next week off to celebrate Christmas and New Years and lots of good family.
The arrival of Liz’s parents today. They are always a great presence to have around.
The beautiful Christmas lights in Prestonwood Forest and the beautiful girl at my side while we drive through the neighborhood last night. Christmas lights are so fun!
Bonnie Ybarra, the admin for Language Services who put in 39 years of service at TCH and is retiring today. I got to go see her and ask for interpreters many times and she was always welcoming. She carries herself with joy, genuineness, kindness, directness, and hilarity!!! Congrats!!!
Victoria Simms, one of the most lovely and sweet people I know. Also, it’s fun to celebrate her travels and have her friendship at TCH. Happy birthday Victoria!
The wonderful special anonymous note of appreciation from another employee that I received today.
Having great neighbors here in our Meyerland area.
Little opportunities to bless others day, like walking people to their destination when they are lost, or praying for them, or making phone calls, and having fun in the elevator with kids.
My aunts successful surgery, and for the support she received from my uncle, her kids, and the many people praying.
Martha Haun. What a good friend over the years! She will always be appreciated for her hugs, positive spirit, willingness to be a rebel, and her deep faith as a teacher. You are awesome Martha! We miss you.
Kellie Thiem’s heart as a nurse and the advocacy, compassion, and energy she brings to the families she cares for.
The Advent and Christmas motif of Light. Light in darkness, a light is come, a light shines…these are profound and motivating images for me that draw me through the whole season.
Doing Secret Santa/Snowman at work. It’s awesome to coordinate and see the joy and fun others have with it and see its impact around the office.
The fun of snow and ice for us here in Houston. Because it’s just fun and good activities and not something we are entirely surrounded by, we get to have it in ways that always make us feel like kids again, like making snowballs, ice slides, and ice skating.
Gabby Prince, a good friend from old times at TCH. She always brings wit, hilarious ness, and deep love for those she is around. Happy birthday Gabby!
Dena Michna. I love her joy as a nurse and the sense of calling and purpose she brings to her profession. But even beyond that, she is a phenomenal encourager, and that’s a gift!
The cuteness of Ryans excitement staying in a hotel last night. So awesome to see what he feels is a treat.
