My daily gratitude for:

  1. Playing with tools with Ryan- he is hilariously focused when working with tools.
  2. Season tickets to the Dynamo! Loving soccer more and more each day!
  3. The powerful message of telling stories about children who have died. All this past weekend, I was the recipient of so many stories and I welcomed all of them because they are powerful reminders that those children have left many fingerprints in this world.
  4. Camp For All in Brenham TX. What a great camp for kids!
  5. My brother Joe.  I love getting to talk to him and hearing about life in Jersey.

Morning by Morning (2/24/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Cinnamon Life and Vanilla Life cereals.  They are surprisingly good with enough sweetness for a relatively  more healthy cereal (still not great).
  2. Having friends who are oncologists, geologists, musicians, lawyers, and others who allow me to always wonder things aloud and for the most part try to answer through their expertise.
  3. The warm weather of the hill country this weekend.
  4. The bold and daring courage of the families who have lost a child and yet are facing their grief headon this weekend at Camp For All.  I admire these dad’s greatly and admire all the families too.

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Being home.  Out for 4 full days, so, back with cute kids, smoking hot wife, and comfortable home.  I am grateful.
  2. Beautiful wife! Gorgeous!
  3. National parks that protect and allow amazing beauty to be seen and experienced.
  4. The weekend birthday party for Dave Fuller that included hiking some amazing and grueling trails, canoeing the Rio Grande, and a massive hailstorm while some of the best burgers ever lie almost finished on the grill. Great weekend!

Morning by Morning (2/17/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Being surrounded in my life with friends and other guys who are faithful, passionate, and are big hearted.  Great influences and lots of wisdom!
  2. The beautiful scenic Hill Country (on my way to Big Bend today!)
  3. Dave Fuller, one of the best oncologists in the world.  Happy birthday to one crazy good guy who is crazy smart and crazy hilarious!
  4. Elana, who is nobly staying with Ryan this weekend while I enjoy Big Bend.  I am very grateful.

Morning by Morning (2/15/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Ryan sleeping.  Because 1) he’s cute when he sleeps and 2) because God bless it he’s sleeping!
  2. Marion Carrion, an RN at the hospital.  It’s so fun to laugh with her and I love working with her with our families.  She’s protective and honest and genuine, which are great characteristics for a nurse. I just love seeing her on the unit!
  3. Strawberries and cream dump cake. Yum!
  4. The laughs and encouragement of the couples we know, starting with Stephen and Dawn Marie who shared Valentines dinner with us last night.
  5. Stephen playing with Ryan.  Ryan knows he is loved and I love watching him play with my friends.

Morning by Morning (2/14/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Our warm February.  Im not a fan of the cold, so I welcome the spring like weather.
  2. The wonder of lightning.  Still amazes me.
  3. Akisha Cannon, an awesome nurse who I have so much joy working with.  I love seeing her pride in her kids, her prayerful attitude, and her kind friendship.
  4. The way Ryan helps himself to whatever is in the cart when we are shopping.  Like an apple last night, or a cereal box a couple weeks ago. Ha!

Morning by Morning (2/13/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. A wonderful Valentines dinner at Cheesecake Factory with my beautiful wife Elana.  It was good time together and of course good food, but it was very nice to hang out and laugh without kids present!
  2. My new phone case- which has a drawing of Cinque Terra on it! It was a perfect Valentines gift from Elana.
  3. Great neighbors and great neighbor kids for Aiden and Ryan.
  4. Rice baseball FanFest yesterday.  Aiden and Ryan loved playing and Aiden really liked taking batting practice and pitching practice with Rice players.
  5. Ryan’s love of church and church friends.

Morning of Morning (2/9/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Warm sunshine. It’s a little chilly today this morning but the sunshine is great.
  2. Lunch with the chaplains yesterday. What a great hour for fellowship and encouragement and laughs!
  3. Every time my parents get to FaceTime with Ryan and/or Aiden.  Those phone mean the world to me.
  4. Dinner group this Saturday! We have been on break for three months and I’m grateful to have some of our church friends over to our house.

Morning by Morning (2/8/17)

My daily gratitude for:

  1. Being up for the sunrise this morning.  I don’t care where I am- city, beach, in the car to work- a sunrise is welcomed.
  2. Elana’s support of me as I continue to take on professional opportunities.  I need to lean in to her more.
  3. Matthew 5:43ff.  Loving your enemies is the point, and I know I am feeling the anxiety of Gods grace.  God sends the sun and the rain on all alike and that grace is a reminder I should desire sun and rain for those who have hurt me too, and that’s hard.  The reward is not necessarily a positive relationship or heaven, but freedom in Gods love from that hurt.  I long for that.
